The photographs in this book continue the work we started last summer.

Carlota and I are interested in routines, repetition, and documenting how things change over time. Returning to my grandfather’s house in San Sebastián allows us to photograph the same spaces and the same people each year, documenting the growth of my nieces, my nephew, and my daughters.

This year we invented a small fiction, imagining model Carlotta Baan as an au pair who had come to spend the summer with us. This fictional way of inhabiting the day allowed us to build a quiet world to observe.

These images are also an excuse to return, to spend time together, to revisit the past, and to immortalize youth.
